Barth airport solar park sold

BayWa r.e. renewable energy GmbH (BayWa r.e.) has sold the Barth airport solar park in north-eastern Germany to an institutional investor and its asset manager, Renewable Energy Capital Partners GmbH (RC Partners). The 40-hectare solar park, currently the largest in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, was constructed by RENERCO Renewable Energy Concepts AG which is a subsidiary of BayWa r.e. The land used to be the site of the now defunct Barth military airbase.

"130,000 photovoltaic modules were installed and the solar park was made operational in just 55 working days. It was a remarkable concerted undertaking by all the companies involved in the construction", explained Matthias Taft, Managing Director of BayWa r.e. Responsible for the construction of the power plant were Kompaktsolar System GmbH and Elektro Riedmann GmbH. The PV modules were sourced from respected supplier of high quality products Yingli Solar. RENERCO created a decentralised concept for this project using string inverters from the TRIO range offered by Power-One, a leading manufacturer of photovoltaic inverters. Commenting on the project, Gerhard Schackert, Sales Director Northern EMEA at Power-One, said: "Because nearly 1200 inverters were required, RENERCO placed particular emphasis on reliability and ease of installation – two criteria that make our AURORA TRIO inverters the ideal solution". Aside from the construction work, a close and trusting working relationship with RC Partners was a decisive factor in making this project a success. Early cooperation between the finance and project management sides created a solid foundation which paved the way for a smooth roll-out.
