Why invest in ground-mounted PV
To date, we are still far from the sustainability goals that Europe and Italy have set for themselves. Indeed, the revision of the Renewable Energy Directive aims to increase the share of renewable energy in the European energy mix, raising the binding 2030 target to 42.5 percent (with the goal of reaching 45 percent). This would almost double the current share of renewable energy in the EU.
Italy’s National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan states that by 2030, Italy will have to install 40 GW of renewable capacity, including 28 GW for large-scale projects, mainly from solar sources.
According to Elettricità Futura, only 0.3 percent of the nation’s total area, or 90,000 hectares, is needed to achieve the 85 GW that would allow Italy to meet European targets.
