Offshore wind: Wind farms in the sea, producing green energy
We develop offshore wind farms in Italy and across Europe, working as active participants in creating a low-carbon future.
Our contribution in the development of offshore wind farms
Offshore wind farms are an essential resource for achieving the target of a climate-neutral European Union by 2050.
In the first half of 2023, Europe installed 2.1 GW of new offshore wind capacity, reaching 32 GW total. However, this level is lower than what is needed to meet European energy and climate goals. The EU is expected to build an average of 11 GW per year of offshore installations by 2030.
BayWa r.e. want to contribute and are actively developing offshore wind farms in Europe. In Italy, BayWa r.e. has recently completed sea surveys for three offshore wind farms off the coast of Sicily, with the aim of starting construction by 2030.
Offshore wind farms in Italy
With our pipeline of projects, we are not only planning a large-scale energy transition, but also creating economic opportunities and promoting sustainable regional development.
The major economic commitment reflects our determination to support and promote a low-carbon future in Italy. Over the next few years, BayWa r.e. will continue to invest resources and expertise to develop innovative solutions like offshore wind that can set the country on a concrete path toward decarbonization.
We are proud to be among the founding members of the AERO (Association of Offshore Renewable Energy) association, which aims to promote the development of offshore renewable energy in Italy.
